The National City Police Department Cadet Post (#2859) is an official program of the City of National City and has been authorized by the Learning for Life Program. Cadets work under the direct supervision of the program advisors and participate in a variety of law enforcement training and community service activities. The purpose of the Cadet Program is to give young men and women the opportunity to learn firsthand the duties and responsibilities of a police officer and to introduce them to a potential future career in the field of law enforcement. This has been a unique experience for many of our young people and many have selected law enforcement as a career. It has produced many fine officers, deputies, and agents in law enforcement.
The Police Cadet Program is a program component of the Explorer Scouts, a part of The Boy Scouts of America. Post 2859 is likewise chartered through The Boy Scouts of America and is in part, sponsored by the National City Police Department. Aside from the scouting and social events, Cadets may participate in many college scholarship programs. As part of the Police Department sponsorship, post members are supervised and supported by sworn police officers who act as advisors on all events.
The Position
Police Cadets assist officers, the Police Department, and the community in a non-law enforcement capacity. Those duties may include traffic direction, crowd control at specific functions, law enforcement presentations, or a variety of other duties in support of and at the direction of field officers. In addition to law enforcement or police-related activities, Cadets are encouraged to become involved in many Post social events such as field trips, camping trips, as well as Scouting sponsored events throughout San Diego County, California, and the United States.
