Follow this checklist to ensure you have the correct fee amount and documents required to apply for your passport.

City of National City Fees

Execution Fee per Passport Application: $35
Photo Fee: $16
City Fees may be in Cash, Credit, Debit, Check or Money Order Only.

*Fees for the U.S. Department of State and the City of National City are separate and cannot be combined into one payment.  Please separate as listed above.

Apply in Person for a Passport

Make an appointment through our online calendar portal.  Due to the high demand walk-ins are not accepted.  Cancellations are posted to the calendar when we are notified.

All children under age 16 must apply for a passport in person with two parents or guardians.

Please refer to the U.S. Department of State website if both parents are not able to appear for the appointment.

Applying as a 16 or 17 Year Old

Most applicants age 16-17 must apply in person and require one parent to be present at the appointment.

Renew Your Passport as an Adult

Renewing your passport as an adult is completed by mail or online.  The Passport Acceptance Facilities are not allowed to process your application. 

If you meet the requirements as listed on the U.S. Department of State website, you may proceed with the renewal process.

The U.S. Department of State offers two options for renewing a passport by mail or online.  There are different requirements for each so please read the requirements carefully to determine which applies to your circumstance.

By Mail

Online

Report your valid U.S. Passport lost or stolen immediately.  Protect yourself from Identity Theft.

Use one of three ways to report it lost or stolen:

• Online
• By Mail, or
• In person when you apply for a new passport

Follow instructions on the U.S. Department of State website to immediately replace your valid lost or stolen property,

What Form Should I Use?

The U.S. Department of State provides the forms online.  Complete and print them out, do not sign until you are in front of an agent if required to appear in person.

Passport Photo Services

Passport can be taken at our facility for a Fee of $16 

The Photos are required to meet certain specifications:

1. Submit one color photo, taken in the last 6 months
2. Use a clear image of your face
3. Do not digitally enhance your photograph
4. No Selfies
5. Take off your glasses 
6. Use a white or off-white background without any shadows, texture or lines

Passport U.S. Department of State Fees:
Fees Payable to the U.S. Department of State vary depending on the service required. All payments to the U.S. Department of State are Check or Money Order Only.

City of National City Fees

U.S. Department of State Passport Processing Times:

Routine: 6-8 Weeks *
Expedited 2-3 Weeks and an extra fee of $60*

Mailing times are not included in the processing times.
Processing times may take an additional 2-4 weeks depending on mailing times.  Consider giving yourself extra time to receive your passport prior to your trip.

Urgent Travel: There are times when Life or Death Emergency or Urgent Travel require a passport to be issued in less than three (3) days.  Restrictions apply.
