The primary function of the Investigations Division is to conduct follow-up work on cases initiated by patrol officers in the field. These cases are typically more complex and time consuming. Cases commonly investigated by our detectives may involve homicides, serious assaults, missing persons, robberies, burglaries, sexual assaults, elder abuse, and complex fraud related offenses. Our detectives specialize in interviewing suspects and witnesses, collecting evidence, writing and executing search warrants, conducting surveillance, and coordinating with other law enforcement partners. Our detectives also work closely with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office to make sure our cases can be well presented in court.
National City Police Detectives are experienced police officers who have been selected through a formal process and receive additional investigative training as a result of their assignment.
