There are approximately 1,820 street lights throughout National City. Of these street lights, approximately 585 are owned by the City of National City and 1,235 by San Diego Gas and Electric. They are repaired and maintained to ensure adequate nighttime visibility.

How to report a street light out

The City of National City performs a complete inspection of all streetlights twice a year to ensure the safety of our residents. We also encourage our residents to report any streetlight that is burned out or not working. The City’s contract vendor for street light maintenance is Southwest Signal Service. The contractor replaces burned out street light bulbs as they are reported. To report a burned out street light, follow the procedures below:

How to Report Information:

Daytime or Voice Mail: (619) 336-4580

Please give us all necessary information including street light location, your name, spelling (if calling) and daytime phone number, should we need more location information.

You may also fax the information to Public Works at (619) 336-4594 or email us at publicworks@nationalcityca.gov. Please include your name and daytime phone number. Please include the street name and address where the street light is located. Indicate if pole is in front of, across from, or in-between the address given. If there is no specific address, then determine how many street lights it is from an intersection and which side of the street. Exact location is very important because they are repaired during the daytime.
