The City has recently enacted a new sign ordinance designed to boost the visibility of business from the street by clearing away signage clutter and creating attractive storefronts and streets. Our aim is simple, to keep National City clean, safe, livable and looking great for the enjoyment of everyone. Through our new Together We Can campaign we will be working with the business community to beautify storefronts and clean up signage clutter. The first step in this campaign will be to update all signage currently out of compliance. A grace period to get your business into compliance began March 1st 2017.

As a Code Conformance Officer some of Joe’s responsibilities include inspections of residential, commercial and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with zoning, nuisance, land use and housing provisions of the municipal code. Joe is a very outgoing, dependable, ambitious and hardworking employee. He has a great interest in learning new things and is always willing to share with others unselfishly. Over the past ten years, Joe has always taken any task willingly and has carried out responsibly, carefully, cheerfully and with great efficiency. Most recently Joe has taken on the duties of providing the lead code conformance outreach related to the "Together We Can" campaign and has played a vital role in the initial stages of the implementation of this new community beautification program.
A Reason to Survive (A.R.T.S.), in collaboration with the City of National City and the National City Chamber of Commerce will create a temporary art installation that will bring together the National City community to transform a vacant building into a vibrant art piece.
The temporary art installation will work in conjunction with City efforts to beautify 8th Street. Mural panels will be up on display at least through 2018 before being transferred to other sites throughout National City.
