About the Civil Service Commission

Duties

The Civil Service Commission recommends to the City Council, after a public hearing, the adoption, amendment or repeal of Civil Service Rules and Regulations not in conflict with the Government Code; hears appeals of any person in the classified service relative to any suspension, demotion or dismissal; and makes any investigation concerning the administration of personnel in the municipal service and reports its findings to the City Council and the City Manager.

Meetings

Public meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every other month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Large Conference Room, 2nd Floor, 1243 National City Blvd., unless otherwise noticed.

Membership

Five members are appointed by the City Council.  Members must be residents of National City and serve for a five-year term. No person shall be appointed to the board who holds any salaried office, employment or appointive position with National City.  It is a prerequisite for appointment that the applicant be a resident of National City and a registered voter.
