About the Planning Commission

Duties

The Planning Commission is appointed to consider land use planning matters.  The Commission renders determinations and makes recommendations to the City Council on a variety of land use matters, including changes to the City’s General Plan, Specific Plans and Land Use Code.  They also provide discretionary review for land use matters such as Conditional Use Permits, Variances, and Subdivisions. 

The Planning Commission also serves on the Housing Advisory Committee, which provides input on housing related matters such as the Housing Element and the Focus General Plan Update and plays a role in moving forward housing programs and projects.

 

Meetings

Meetings of the Planning Commission are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, unless otherwise designated.

The Planning Commission is composed of seven members appointed by the City Council for a term of four years.

Planning Commission Bylaws

The Planning Commission also acts as the City’s Street Tree and Parkway Committee. In this capacity, the Commission reviews all requests for street tree removals and plantings. For additional information or to request planting or removal of street trees, please contact the Planning Division at (619) 336-4310.
