Over 150 people will participate in the Annual Pancake Breakfast at Fire Station #34 in National City this Saturday November 6, 2010 from 8:00am to 12:00 pm. Since 1977 the National City Fire Fighters have supported the National City Spirit of the Holidays, a Christmas charity that provides Christmas dinners and toys for the less fortunate families in our community. Last year the Fire Fighters served more than 200 families.
On Saturday November 6, 2010 the Fire Fighters will cook a breakfast that consists of: Scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, and coffee, juice. At the breakfast there will be raffles that include prizes from many local businesses that also support Spirit of the Holidays. A donation of $5 is suggested for the pancake breakfast. All proceeds will benefit Spirit of the Holidays.
Like the National City Fire Department, other major sponsors include the National City College Campus Lions, National School District, American Legion Larry. E Bennett Post-255, and the National City Host Lions Club.
The program is designed to assist low-income families with children and elderly who are in need of support in the way of food and gifts during the holiday season. Families requesting assistance must complete an application and participate in an interview. The Spirit of the Holidays Selection Committee and the National City College Campus Lions Club reviews the applications submitted and along with supporting documentation, selects families on the basis of need, and notifies the families of their selection. The approved families receive their gifts a week before Christmas Day.
